How to care for outdoor furniture

We build our furniture to last, from powder coated metals to UV and mildew resistant fabrics.  In order for you to enjoy for a long as possible it is important to clean and maintain your beautiful outdoor furniture.  Regular cleaning can help prolong the life of your furniture. 

Start with a soft brush and brush down all your furniture.  This will remove the worst of the dust and any webs that may be lurking.  A dustpan brush is ideal, but we also keep a couple of clean paint brushes on had to reach any tricky areas. 

Use a mild soap solution and a soft cloth to clean dirt and grime. Rinse thoroughly with a hose or bucket of clean water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers.  

Outdoor furniture is exposed to the elements, so it's important to protect it from sun, rain, wind, and snow. There is a difference in what you can expect between outdoor undercover and fully outdoor furniture.  Covering the furniture with a protective tarp or storing it in a shed or garage when not in use can help prolong its life.  Regularly inspecting your furniture for early signs of damage or wear and treating them will make a huge difference to the lifespan of your furniture.  

Different materials require different types of care. For example, wood furniture should be oiled or treated with a protective finish to help it resist moisture and cracking. Wicker or rattan furniture should be kept dry and away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and cracking. Metal furniture should be cleaned and protected from rust.  If wet outside cushions benefit from being stood up and allowing the water to drain through the cushions.

If you live in an area with harsh winters, it's a good idea to store your outdoor furniture during the winter months to protect it from snow, ice, and freezing temperatures.  It isn't always practical to bring your furniture inside for storage but throwing some cover over it a clean and treatment will definitely help it to over winter without excess damage.
